Free Marseille Tarot: Drawing and Interpreting the Arcana

The Marseille tarot is the most widely used deck in France, and by far the most common in free online readings. Its bold colors, its slightly naive figures and its powerful symbols speak immediately. But between drawing the cards and understanding them, there is a step many do not dare take. Good news: with a free reading and a little method, you can progress quickly, without buying a deck or taking a course.

Which cards does a free Marseille tarot reading use?

The complete Marseille tarot has 78 cards: 22 major arcana and 56 minor arcana. The vast majority of free online readings use only the 22 major arcana. Why? Because they are the most symbolic cards, the ones carrying life's great themes: choice, change, hope, success. They are easy to read on their own, whereas the minors need more context.

The 22 majors run from the Fool (unnumbered) to the World (XXI). Each has its own personality, its energy, its message.

How to do a free reading online

The process is almost always the same:

1. Phrase your question clearly, preferably open and centered on you.
2. Focus for a few seconds, breathe.
3. Choose your cards from the face down deck, following your intuition.
4. Discover the arcana and their interpretation.

One tip: write down your question before drawing. It keeps you from unconsciously rephrasing it according to the result.

Interpreting the arcana: the method

Start with the image

The Marseille tarot is a visual language. Before reading the text, look at the card. Where is the figure looking? Sitting, standing, moving? Which colors dominate? These details say a lot.

Then the keyword

Each arcanum has a central idea. The Magician: beginnings. The Hermit: stepping back. The Sun: success. Remember it before the nuances.

Finally, the nuance according to your question

The same arcanum changes color depending on the area. Take the Lovers: in love, the card speaks of attraction or hesitation; at work, of a choice between two paths. Its true meaning is explained in detail in the meaning of the Lovers in tarot, well beyond romance.

Three often misunderstood arcana

Strength

People imagine it brutal, it is the complete opposite. A woman opens a lion's jaws effortlessly: it is quiet strength, self control, gentleness that tames. To go further, read the meaning of Strength in tarot for love and work.

The Hanged Man

A man hanging upside down: the image is worrying. Yet the Hanged Man speaks of useful waiting, letting go, a change of perspective. It is not a negative card, as explained in the meaning of the Hanged Man in tarot.

The unnamed arcanum

The famous card XIII, with no name. It does not speak of physical death but of transformation, the end of a cycle that opens onto renewal.

The Marseille tarot in love

It is the most frequent question in free readings. A few landmarks:

• the Sun, the Star, the World and Temperance are the cards most favorable to a fulfilling relationship;
• the Lovers and the Moon speak of doubt or choice;
• the Devil evokes a strong passion, sometimes a difficult attachment.

When you wonder what the other person feels, the temptation to draw again and again is strong. Our article does he love me? Tarot and pendulum to see more clearly offers a calmer approach. And for symbolic moments, why not try a special Valentine's Day tarot spread to take stock of your love life?

Progressing with free readings

The free reading is a wonderful training ground. Here is how to get the most out of it:

Read before the text

Draw your card, hide the text, and form your own interpretation. Only then read the site's. Note the differences.

Keep a notebook

Date, question, card, your interpretation, what happened next. Over the weeks, you will see your readings sharpen.

Learn one arcanum a week

One week with the High Priestess, one week with the Chariot. Observe it, read about it, spot it in your spreads. In five months, you will know all 22 majors.

Rely on a complete reference

For each card, our guide to the meaning of the 22 Marseille tarot arcana, one by one details the meaning upright, reversed, in love, at work and for money.

The limits of free Marseille tarot

An automated reading uses texts written in advance. It cannot link the cards to your story, rephrase a badly worded question, or cross tarot with other tools. For an important question, a personal reading makes the difference: a serious psychic reading by email, without the phone, for example, lets your arcana be read in light of your real situation.

In summary

Free Marseille tarot is the best gateway into the world of the arcana. Draw with a clear question, look at the image before the text, remember the keyword then the nuance. Use each reading as an exercise, keep a notebook, and you will see the 22 arcana gradually become a familiar language.
